This website provides information that will help you feel more confident and secure when dealing with individuals, institutions, and organizations that you may encounter as a victim or witness.
Why is the project necessary?
Latvia currently lacks not only a comprehensive victim support system, but also a unified national policy that would enable the development of support instruments for victims of crime. For this reason, we can say that in the Latvian context, there are only a few support tools that are used indirectly by some government agencies and a small number of non-governmental organizations, but they do not meet the needs of victims as a whole.
This creates a number of threats to public safety – secondary and repeat victimization, as well as the risk that the victim, in attempting to resolve the unjust situation on their own, may themselves become offenders, increasing recidivism and causing losses to individuals and the state as a whole.
