The campaign “You can be hurt too”

The MARTA Resource Center for Women has launched a public campaign called “You Can Be Hurt Too,” which calls on Latvian society to be vigilant and active, not blaming victims of human trafficking, but helping them.

Marta invites you to get involved in the campaign too:

• Find out what MARTA does – visit the MARTA website www.marta.lv or Facebook, Twitter, and Draugiem.lv profiles.
• Tell others – help spread the word on social media.
• Report – cases of human trafficking in Latvia and abroad.
• Become a volunteer – contact MARTA or an organization in your city.
• Donate – support women and children in need.
• Set an example – don’t judge, but help.

The campaign is being implemented as part of the project “SAFETY COMPASS: effective solutions for preventing human trafficking.”

This project has the following objectives:

• To raise awareness of new forms of human trafficking, risks and recruitment trends on the internet and social networks;
• To reduce demand for services and products provided by victims of human trafficking and promote fair trade;
• To reduce the supply of human trafficking by promoting more intensive inter-institutional cooperation between the public, private and non-governmental sectors and by developing exit/support programs for victims;
• Establish international referral mechanisms for the support and protection of victims of human trafficking between Estonia, Latvia, and the United Kingdom.
